Puerto Vallarta; Mexico. With a following of millions the HGTV show of buying Real Estate in other countries called House Hunters International has come to Puerto Vallarta to film an episode. The report is that they loved it and plan another episode in this popular vacation destination.

The filming was done in early January 2012 and the episode should air within a few months, in April of 2012. The Realtor was Carl Timothy of the well known Timothy Group and the rest is confidential until the episode is aired.

If you are not familiar with the very famous TV show, it is a half hour adventure of someone who wants to purchase a home in a foreign country. Usually the buyer is either from the United States or Canada and the destinations are as exotic as Thailand, Hong Kong and Tokyo. The story takes you from the buyers current home in some typical town or city in the US or Canada, then to the completely different and extremely exotic destination, where they plan to purchase a new home. They have showcased options from cave homes to Moroccan villas. The buyer is working with a local realtor who finds and shows them a range of options and then guides them thru the local laws for purchasing and closing the sale. The HGTV show has become an almost cult favorite with a wide range of fans from young teens to the 60 years plus, many are women but men seem to love it as well. It is a travel show with a home and decorating included and sometimes even gives you a peek at local culinary options. The show ends with the new home owners 3-6 months after the purchase showing the changes and upgrades they have made and often entertaining new friends in their new home.

It is always eye opening to see how different homes and real estate prices can be in other parts of the world. For example the extremely rustic stone house on the very steep Olive farm in Greece listed at over $900,000 USD with over 100 steps to reach the house, purchased by a very pleasant couple from southern California – they did say they like DIY projects.

That fact that the program’s producers chose to film and episode in Puerto Vallarta tends to show it as an attractive safe destination to live or visit as a tourist.
