Puerto Vallarta, Mexico: If you are planning a trip to Puerto Vallarta; Mexico make sure to pack your walking shoes because the charming old town is made to explore on foot.

This charming village is a walkers dream you can power walk or run the Malecon –mornings are best. The historic old town is very small and can be explored in a short time, wander up the hill, along the Rio Cuale and just go wherever it looks interesting which is all of it.

There are guided walking and hiking tours, some Free Tours like the very popular Malecon Sculpture Walk
free every Tuesday morning during the winter /high season starting at 9:30 am and meeting at the northern most end of the Malecon near the Hotel Rosita at the sculpture known as the Millennium. The tour is guided by long time local and owner of the Galeria Pacifico, Gary Thompson. Gary has 30 years of experience in the Vallarta art scene and knows many of the artists personally. Tour is free, no reservations needed, the 12 block tour includes about 5 minutes on each of the sculptures and ends at Galleria Pacifico for complimentary drinks.

There is also the unguided Art walks the original thru the historic zone and the new Southside Shuffle in the more bohemian Romantic zone.

The Origonal Art walks. Are every Wednesday evening thru the winter season and all the Galleries plan an exhibition, most serve complimentary cocktails and snacks. A great way to explore the town, see some of Puerto Vallarta’s world class art and meet some interesting people.

Southside Shuffle: takes place every other Friday evening, main focus on Basillio Badillo street from Ignacio L. Vallarta to Constitution and around the corner, complimentary cocktails, snacks and often live music.

Guided tours: there are several from a Taco tour to Power-Walking Hidden Streets: include a work out with your tour.
Tours du Jour by Sylvie Scopazzo is a guided walking tour held every Thursday morning thru the winter season. Tour begins in front of the iconic Lady of Guadalupe Cathedral in the heart of the historic zone and quickly gets your heart rate up by going up the hill. Sylvie is very knowledgeable about local flora and the reward is the view from the top of the 500 foot hill. Then back into town, a quick snack at small local restaurant, then into historic gringo gulch and to the River Cuale for a cool down on to the local Mercado Municipal completes the 3 hour tour cost $25 USD per person

Note when walking thru the downtown area you will see the power of daily walking as the locals even very elderly seem to be born to go up and down the hills with ease.

Puerto Vallarta is still like a small town in the historic zone and made to tempt you to walk around and explore.
