Happy Holiday, Merry Christmas, Feliz Navidad this is a very festive time to be in Puerto Vallarta, from December 1st when the Festival of Our Lady of Guadalupe begins and goes thru December 12th, all the Christmas Posadas, Christmas and New Years Eve and the first day of the New year.

Today December 7^th the pilgrimages to the church are a constant sight with many of the downtown streets closed at some point each day to allow the parade to pass.

The traditional Christmas Tree is up on the Malecon in front of the main plaza given that we are in the tropics it is a faux tree covered with lights and Coca Cola decorations – Coca Cola sponsors the tree and the red round Christmas decorations with Coca Cola logos are very seasonal but also a daily sight in a country with lots of thirty people.

Christmas celebrations: in Mexico December 24^th is considered Christmas, families gather together for a late dinner, then Mass and then open gifts as late as 3am and sleep in on the morning of the 25^th. The first time I was invited to dinner for Christmas on December 24^th and asked to arrive at 9pm I sat alone until 11pm when finally the family and guests all arrived for a 1am dinner.

In order to take care of everyone many of the best restaurants are offering special dinners on both December 24^th and on December 25^th. There are options but the most common is the traditional Turkey dinner from north of the Rio Grande. I have often asked what a traditional Mexican Christmas dinner is, and was very surprised to learn that Barceló a traditional dried cod dish is the tradition for December 24^th night and Tamales are the traditional December 25^th meal. Although many Mexicans are developing a taste for Turkey dinner and it is fast becoming a favorite.

Beston Properties Vacation Rentals is highly recoomends the following options of local restaurants offering Christmas dinners are: Hacienda San Angel with Prime Rib as well as the usual menu on December 24^th and Turkey plus normal menu on December 25^th, Daiquiri Dicks beachfront Restaurant is offering Turkey dinner a la carte plus the full regular menu on December 25^th, The River Café as an all inclusive traditional Turkey dinner for $350 pesos including a choice of 3 different seasonal desserts. La Palapa and Trio are also offering special dinners.

If you want a really special celebration for New Years Eve there are a range of options from Hacienda San Angel with a 7 course dinner with 6 of the courses including a specially chosen wine to pair with it an d champagne, plus live music for $220 USD or Hacienda San Angel also offers the option of the usual menu in their restaurant. The New Year’s Eve party is in the special events space. River Café has a wonderful package all included with dinner, open bar and live music for $1500 pesos. Daiquiri Dicks and La Palapa offer a special New Years package
